Le Grand Mazarin

Situated in the heart of Le Marais, Le Grand Mazarin is inspired by the way in which the area tells the story of Paris’ cultural history.

We were inspired by the concept of the salon, where figures from art, literature, and music gathered in sumptuous residences, exchanging ideas and thoughts.

From its aristocratic foundations to the city’s entwined love of the arts, MBDS has designed a neighbourhood hotel that brings together history, art and literature in a thoroughly Parisian way.

Inspired by the great salons of a bygone era, the studio sought to reinvent the concept of the home as being a place of entertainment for the culturally aware and progressive, where like-minded souls can gather, dine and sleep.

Each space takes you on a journey through the salon host’s eyes and experiences. There is a collector’s feel to each space with layered detailing, bespoke furniture and lighting and antique items and accessories, all of which mirror the host’s well-lived life, her adventures and loves.

There is a slightly different feel for each part of the host’s journey and exploration through different countries, yet there is a strong thread throughout the whole property that ties everything together in a cohesive manner.

Every corner of this jewel box hotel has been thought through, from the artfully arranged alcoves and bookshelves in the lobby to the gorgeous mural painted by local artist Jacques Merle above the indoor swimming pool.
